Several years ago, a group of friends in metro Phoenix were discussing the lack of a safe place for HIV-positive men to meet.
The bars are not a safe place to meet and no other organization met their needs, so they decided to create a space for poz men to mix and mingle. They were aware of the success of such an event in Boston and other cities, so they decided to recreate it here.
Orignially, the Poz Social was held at Ticoz restaurant in central Phoenix. But because of financial reasons, the event had to move to its current location, Wild Thaiger restaurant. The event has been a hit at the new location, but still struggles financially.
When asked, most men make the requested $5 donation. But most men do not volunteer to pay. Without these contributions, the event cannot pay its rent at Wild Thaiger. Other event use Wild Thaiger for their events and pay rent. Our event is no different. So please approach Mike, the event coordinator with your donation. Five dollars is requested. That's all it takes to pay our rent.
Lately, the Poz Social has been taking a different approach. Various members with businesses are donating money or services to the event to help keep it going. For instance, Lodestone Systems provides hosting for the website. Scott provides web design and development services. Bob at Arizona's Best Painting provides financial contributuions. You can see your name and logo on our website if you arrange to make a contribution of funds or services. Please contact Mike for further details and to discuss how you can help the social.
